Guest Bedroom Makeover Reveal
It seems like such a long time has passed since I first told you all about my vision for our guest room makeover. I feel like I was stuck for so long to make any progress. It's like winter came and all my motivation went away with the warm weather. But, we are finally done (not with snow, it's falling like crazy outside right now!) and I'm really happy it turned out how I wanted it to. (You can see the original post here) Lets start with what my vision looked like.
I was able to paint the accent wall in SW Tempe Star, while the rest of the walls stayed the same color, SW Versatile Gray. The biggest change was changing the trim color in this room. I wasn't planning on painting the trim but after taking pictures in this room, the trim color really made everything look yellowish. So I narrowed down from 3 choices and used SW White Cotton on all the trim. We plan to repaint all our trim to white eventually but since this room was small enough and cut off from the others, we went ahead and painted in there first. I don't think we will use the same color for the rest of the trim, but it's much better than it was.
The curtains I got from Target. I bought 2 panels and cut them down the middle to create 2 panels for each window. I'd like to add some wood shades at some point. But this was a great way to save some money on window coverings.
The headboard was made by a friend of my parents. They gave it to us as they are in the process of downsizing. I had been eyeing this West Elm stained glass duvet cover for a while and finally had a good reason to get it! I loved that the colors worked so well with what I wanted for this room.
The night stand is the Ikea Rast. It's only $35 and there are so many different things you can do with it! I settled on painting the drawer fronts and staining the outside. ( I used Minwax Cherry with a Matte Poly) The knobs are a find from HomeGoods. I added a thrift store lamp that I paint with chalk spray paint (love that stuff!) and added a clearanced cork lamp shade from Target.

The piece that I'm most excited about in this space is the amazing rustic wood light from Shades of Light. When doing this makeover, I really wanted to replace the builder grade light. Shades of Light has a huge selection of lights and as soon as I saw this one, I knew it was the perfect one for this space. Once I was able to order it, we received it quickly. The service at Shades of Light was great and they were wonderful to work with. The light it self really lets off the proper amount of light for this space. Don't you love it!?
For some extra storage I added the Ikea Tarva dresser. I really wanted to find a nice wood dresser but could not find one that I liked in my price range. This dresser will work well and I'll keep my eyes open for that perfect vintage dresser. For the Tarva, I painted it in Seaside from MudPaint and stained the legs and knobs the same color as the Rast dresser. I added these fun gold arrow pulls from Horrocks and my vintage mirror to the top. On the opposite side of the window, I put a bench and coat hooks. Guests can hang up jackets, purses or bath towels here for quick access.
I tried to use a mixture of old and new pieces in this room. Most of the new is the furniture and the old are the pieces that I added in. The mirror on the dresser is a old, heavy mirror that I saved from being thrown away. All it needed was some cleaning and it looks great in this room. The other piece that I was excited to add was the wood frame above the bed. This I found while doing some garage sale shopping. I'm not 100% what it was used for originally but it really works well above the bed. For now I added the Happy banner but eventually I'll swap that out for seasonal pieces.
Margot decided the photo shoot was for her! |
I'm happy to finally say that our Guest room is open for visitors! Don't worry, the cat doesn't normally stay in here, although she clearly is enjoying the bed!
Let me know what you think of the newly updated space. I'd love to hear from you!
