Fall Fireplace Mantle

Hey guys!  I have so much stuff going on I can barely keep up, but I wanted to stop by and let you know I'm still here.  Between trying to get our yard leaf-free, painting furniture and trying to work on our guest room, I rarely have time for much else.  Last week I took down all of our Halloween decor and changed things up with some fall items.

Halloween Mantle

I didn't want to go overboard since I had a lot going for Halloween and will have a lot again for Christmas.  So I went really simple on our fireplace mantle.  One item that I was finally able to mark off my wish list was a dough bowl.  If you are unfamiliar with what a dough bowl is, years ago in Eastern Europe, these bowls were hand carved to be used in making bread.  Each bowl is unique and they come in many different sizes.  These bowls are great to use in home decor.  You can fill it with pretty much anything, and I just love the history that each one contains.

 A couple weeks ago I found one online at Antique Farmhouse and bought it.  It's the perfect size to use on our mantle or for a table top display.  I can't wait try more things in it.

For now I just filled the bowl with some decorative balls.  I printed out this "In all things Give Thanks" print that I found as a free download from here.  I really like being able to download printables and adding them to frames around the house.  Not only is it simple to do, but it's inexpensive and can easily be changed out.

The turkey we purchased at Target a couple years ago.  It actually went missing last year, but I found it in time to put him out for this fall.  The brown pumpkin is just a simple paper pumpkin from JoAnn's that I had been meaning to paint but couldn't decide on a color, so I'm leaving it plain for now.  A couple of green bowls with some more gourds and pumpkins round out the rest of the mantle.

Since we do not have a fireplace I added some LED candles to the hearth and this paper flower wreath from Home Goods.  The candles are a great way to add a little drama and mood lighting to our living room at night.  It feels nice to have a simple, clean fireplace again.  Once I start decorating for Christmas the fireplace will get a whole new look.  I was hoping I'd find a nice wood mantle before Christmas but I don't think that will be happening.  Perhaps I'll just add a simple piece of wood to the top, then I'll have a flat surface to put my pretty things on.
