Guest Bedroom Makeover Inspiration

So, some of you may be thinking, "Didn't you just show us your bathroom inspiration?"  And the answer is yes, yes I did.  While we are still working on our bathroom overhaul, I was really itchy to do more.  Which is funny, cause I really don't have the time to add more to my plate, but I keep piling things on.

I have probably mentioned it before, but our guest bedroom is currently a dumping ground for a lot of different things but it has no real design aspects to it.  All the walls on our main floor are the same color, Sherwin Williams Versatile Gray, except for the bathroom.  I really want to add some color and life into this room.  We don't get a lot of guests spending the night but when we do, I'd rather it be an inviting space.  I'll share the bits and pieces next but here is the overall look for this room.

Isn't it pretty!?!

My parents are in the middle of purging a lot of stuff so they have been offer up stuff to us kids.  One of the things they are getting rid of is a headboard.  A friend made it and is a really nice, white headboard.  I knew I wanted to change out the one we currently have in that room and this one will work nicely.  Our ceilings are 9 feet so we need to add some taller pieces to this room.  The bed that is currently in there has a small headboard and with the ceilings so tall, it makes the bed seem that much shorter.

Once I had the headboard figured out I decided to find some new bedding.  I did a fairly quick search and found one at West Elm that I loved!  Knowing I wanted it, I put it in my online shopping cart to see if I could find a coupon or something for it.  According to the website, the duvet wouldn't ship until January.  Ummm, that is way too long to make me wait! So I called the West Elm that is right up the street (trouble I tell you!) and they had ONE LEFT in the size I needed!  I told them to hold it for me and I was there in less than 15 minutes to pick it up.

I also knew I wanted an accent wall where the bed was and I knew I wanted something dark to pop in the room.  I narrowed my choices down to these 3 from Sherwin Williams, Naval, Grays Harbor and Tempe Star.  After grabbing my duvet from West Elm, I ran to Lowe's to pick up sample pots of the 3 colors I liked.  Once I got home, I put a swatch of each up on the wall.  I thought I would know right away which one to choose but it was a hard decision.  I ended up choosing the Tempe Star.

I'll add an Ikea Rast dresser next to the bed as a night stand.  I have already done one (check it out here)and it sold this month at my booth! For this one I will do a combination of stained and painted and add some new pulls.

Lastly, I'll add a rug, new light fixture and maybe try my hand at painting something for the walls. I'm not sure when the last time I was so excited about being this busy!  My goal is to keep a tight budget for this project, so I'll be trying to find items either second hand or great bargains and fixing them up.

I'd love to hear what you think.  Leave your comments below!

  1. I am in love with that comforter. I have been looking for a head and foot board for over a year and I still can't commit.

  4. Your guest room sounds like our master bedroom, a dumping ground for leftovers and cast offs, ugh. It sounds like this room is going to be so peaceful and beautiful!

    1. There's always one room like that, right? My problem is organization right now, but I want to be prepared when we have unexpected guests.
